Project Description: The applicant proposes to subdivide the 0.513-acre (22,347SF) parcel into two lots: Parcel A, measuring 0.243 acres (10,581 SF) with 110 feet of street frontage on Campbell Ave.; and Parcel 2, measuring 0.27 acres (11,766 SF) with 97 feet of street frontage on Hector St. and 93.2 feet of street frontage on Campbell Ave., and containing an existing single-family home. The property is in the R-1a Zoning District, which has the following minimum area requirements: 10,000 SF lot size, 75 feet of street frontage, 25-foot front yard and 10-foot side yard setbacks, and a rear yard setback of 50 feet or 25%, but no less than 20 feet. This is an Unlisted Action under the City of Ithaca Environmental Quality Review Ordinance and the State Environmental Quality Review Act, and is subject to environmental review.
Students in the Service Class at LACS (Lehman Alternative Community School) are hosting a dinner on Monday, November 10, at the school at 6:00 p.m. It will be a brainstorming session to hear about how LACS could be a resource to the West Hill community. Childcare will be provided and the students will facilitate the gathering.

The Service class does a variety of projects in Ithaca each year, from working with the Food Bank to helping mentor younger students. But with this meeting we are simply trying to facilitate a brainstorming session to hear what kinds of ways the students at the school and the school itself might be of use to the West Hill community. Whether the ideas will work out, we don’t know. But I know my Service Class students would like to be of use and I imagine other students in the school might like to get involved in the West Hill community, too. We have helped with some of the community cafe sessions (with Ms. Michelle Mills) before and assisted with the 4H after school program, but we thought we ought to hear about other ways the school / students might be of use, too.

PUBLIC INPUT SOUGHT FOR
TOMPKINS COUNTY COMPREHENSIVE PLANHow can we make Tompkins County a place where:
- Economic prosperity is accessible to all?
- Natural features and working rural landscapes are preserved and enhanced?
- The entire community is prepared for the economic, environmental, and social impacts of climate change?
- The built environment promotes safety and daily physical activity?
These and other questions about the future of our community will be the topics of discussion at six upcoming public meetings hosted by the Tompkins County Planning Department on the update of the Tompkins County Comprehensive Plan. The meetings will focus on proposed policies to address challenges facing the community. Participants will be asked to comment on the proposed policies and suggest specific actions the community might take to implement those policies. A draft plan incorporating comments received during this phase of the public input process is anticipated to be ready for public review in the fall, with a final plan to be presented to the County Legislature for adoption later this year.

The City of Ithaca is considering changes to the Odd/Even Parking Regulations and is hosting a series of community meetings to present the findings of the Odd/Even Parking Task Force. Residents are encouraged to attend one of the meetings to learn more about the proposed changes, and to share any thoughts, ideas, comments, concerns and questions with members of City staff.

On Tuesday, April 29th, 2014, the City of Ithaca’s Comprehensive Plan Committee will be hosting a workshop on future land use in the city. There will be two opportunities for input. The first session will be from 3:45-5:30 p.m. and the second session will be from 6:15-8:00 p.m., in City Hall, Common Council Chambers, Third Floor, 108 E. Green Street (across the street from the Tompkins County Public Library).
The Committee will present its recommendations on neighborhood preservation and future growth. Your comments on these ideas will be incorporated into the land use chapter of the City’s new Comprehensive Plan. For more information, visit the Comprehensive Plan,

Greetings fellow West Hillers,
This year’s West Hill Clean-up will take place the morning of Saturday, April 26. This can be a really enjoyable day with neighbors; do pitch in.
The trash bags get set out the night before (Friday), or at the crack of dawn on the 26th. Generally there is a flag at each of the spots, which are spread all over West Hill. One is at the bottom of Elm Street, one is at the corner of Hook and Warren Place. There are a couple on Hector Street, a couple on Warren, one or two on Cliff and Campbell and on Oakwood. I don’t remember where all the spots are. Ray Schlather does that part, generally. There will be a bag / collection spot near just about everyone. You can tell where they are by looking for them. You’ll see them.
After you fill as many bags as you want, you return them to the spot where you got them. Then Ray Schlather, myself, and others drive around in a truck and trailer and pick everything up and take it to the dump, beginning shortly after noon.
The City pays the tipping fee. We record how much we collect in pounds, maybe tons. The more trash we collect, the better. If we collect a lot, we get to brag about it to our friends from other neighborhoods at fancy cocktail parties.
If people would like to sign-up for a specific neighborhood, that probably will help us to cover a more complete area. You can also work solo, or with your children, whatever.
I think Ray will probably chime in later this week with more specifics, if that is needed.
Remember, please, that this is NOT clear-out the junk you’ve accumulated in your garage and basement day. We are collecting the “wild ” trash that can be found outdoors on West Hill.
Sadly, we have seen a decline in participation for this neighborhood undertaking in recent years. We particularly could use more help with “heavy lifting” trash, stuff like shopping carts that have found their way into the gullies on lower West Hill.
This is hard work, but when a number of people pitch in together, it can be fun.
There is no sign-up for this required, but if you would like to help with some of the heavy lifting and hauling, please drop me a line.
During the next month — March 31-April 28 — city crews will be cleaning the streets, making it necessary that no cars be parked on the street when crews arrive. They will post signs in the blocks to be cleaned at least 24 hours in advance, so be alert for their appearance. While there is a day-by-day schedule for streets east of the Inlet, our West Hill cleaning will be announced only by the appearance of on-street signs.
