Subject: Odd/Even Parking / New parking regulations

Hi everyone -

With Odd/Even parking regulations going into effect November 1st, we're hoping that you can assist us in educating our newer residents. In addition, parking regulations have recently changed on Cayuga Street in relation to the installation of the new bicycle lanes, so we want them to be prepared as well.

Odd/Even Parking Regulations:

Odd/Even parking regulations are in effect on most city streets from November 1 – April 1 of each year to facilitate snow removal and street cleaning. Signage explaining this seasonal regulation is posted at the entry points of the City and not on each individual street.

The City of Ithaca Municipal Code states: “Effective November 1 through April 1 of each year no person shall park a vehicle between 2:00 am and 6:00 am on the odd-numbered side of all City streets on the odd-numbered days of the calendar month, and on the even-numbered side of all City streets on the even-numbered days of the calendar month” unless exempted by the Board of Public Works.

To explain this regulation in simple terms: when you park your car for the evening (before midnight) on an even numbered day (November 2nd), park on the side of the street where the street numbers are even (302, 304). After midnight, the date changes to November 3rd, so you do not want to be on the odd-numbered side of the street.

Please Note: October, December, January, and March have 31 days. On those months park on the EVEN side of the street on both the 30th and the 31st because after midnight both days turn into odd-numbered days, and you need to be on the even numbered side of the street between 2:00 am – 6:00 am.

If your street only has parking on one side of the street, you may have to find parking on a nearby street on the alternate days. Information regarding streets that are exempt from the odd/even parking can be found on the City's website under "Ithaca's Latest News".

For more information on these parking regulations, please contact the City Chamberlain’s Office (607) 274-6580.

New Cayuga Street Parking Regulations:
Farm to Marshall Street: 1-hour parking on the east side of the street / No parking on the west side of the street - residents will need to find parking on adjacent side streets.

Marshall - Lincoln Street: 24-hour parking on the east side of the street / No parking on the west side of the street - residents are not subject to odd/even parking, they can park on the east side of the street every day but must move their vehicles every 24 hours.

Lincoln Street - City line: No parking on both sides of the street - residents will need to find parking on adjacent side streets.

All of the new signage has been installed and should be of assistance.

Please feel free to contact Transportation Engineer Tim Logue at tlogue at cityofithaca.org or (607) 274-6530 if you have any questions.
Thanks or any assistance you can provide!
                                                        Julie
